Dr. Rape received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1982. He then attended Emory University School of Dentistry in Atlanta where he received his D.D.S. degree in 1986. There, he was awarded highest honors, graduating at the top of his class. In 1989, in addition to completing a 3-year postgraduate orthodontic specialty residency at UAB School of Dentistry, Dr. Rape was awarded a Master's Degree for extensive orthodontic research. In 2001, Dr. Rape became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a prestigious award only a small percentage orthodontists ever achieve.

Dr.Rape has served as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Orthodontics at UAB School of Dentistry as well as past president of UAB Orthodontic Alumni Association. He is a member of the
American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontics, Southern Association of Orthodontics, and Alabama Dental Association.

Dr. Rape and wife, Melissa, live in the Trussville area. He has four children, Kristen, Andrew, Kelsey and Anna. He and his family enjoy many past times including travel, movies, video games, reading, tennis, frisbee, water skiing and ping pong to name a few.
They are active members of Clearbranch Methodist Church.
